Dig out your salopettes for a trip to Skipton’s sassiest spot!
Actually, don’t – ski jackets and furry muffs are the last thing you’ll need in Alexander’s genius seasonal outdoor pop-up. Thanks to a lot of well-positioned heaters and sheep skins in a cosy-sized space that holds 30 people perfectly, it’s toasty warm inside.
Only a bar and restaurant that is owned entirely by a Yorkshire-based entertainment group who have been building sets and supplying props for ‘West-End’ style productions on some of the world’s leading luxury cruise ships for years, could successfully pitch what is essentially a glorified gazebo in their back yard and transform it into something right out of a Crystal Ski Brochure.
Alexender’s Off Piste pop-up, which sits out on the venue’s large patio over a decked area, looks like something that has been heli-lifted from an alpine village in Switzerland and dumped by the canal in Skipton – it is simply genius.
Step outside the rear glass doors of Alexander’s, wander across the paved patio, past the twinkling pine trees and beyond the vinyl entrance is little whimsical wonderland. It’s like stepping into a grown up version of Narnia via a high street bar in Skipton!
Clever graphics printed onto the interior of a large tent give a very good impression of an expensive wooden-clad cosy cabin complete with fireplaces, Christmas trees, flickering candles and fairy lights, hanging poles and skies and windows looking out over snow-covered mountains.
Snuggle up on one of the many sheepskins and order a hot mulled wine or mulled cider whilst you and your group choose from two mouth-watering options from the food menu, aptly named The Black Run and The Blue Run.
Served off-piste from Monday to Sunday from 12pm through to 10pm, The Black Run mouth-watering feast (£45 per person) features cheese fondue, beer-cooked frankfurter sausages, pulled pork & flat bread and a cured fish smorgasbord. All cooked to order, on-site, from locally sourced suppliers. The Blue Run at £30 is a little easier on the waist so we were told. But hell, it’s Christmas, so strap up those skis and hit that Black Run. We dare you.
If you have the room, the ‘piste’ de resistance is the chocolate fondue – dip the marshmallows, fresh fruit and honeycomb into a generous hot pot of chocolate washed down with a delicious cocktail from the extensive drinks menu.
As novel goes, Alexander’s nails it. Last night’s launch of Alexander’s off-piste pop-up was a heady mix of decadence, delicious grub and Scandinavia snug, and it is the ultimate Swiss soiree in Skipton this season.
Off Piste has kicked off the festive season at Alexander’s and runs through to January 2019.Packages from £30pp. Suitable for Groups of 2-30 people. This immersive Yorkshire experience MUST be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

Thanks for inviting us Alexander’s.
I’m 40 in just over a year’s time and I’m seriously considering hiring this incredible space out and rolling into my next decade in true Hygge style. Honestly, it’s that cool!
