I’ve been meaning to try out The York Roast Co for ages after they invented the Yorkshire pudding wrap which became a massive media sensation. It got a whopping 25 million views on a single Facebook clip and has been raved about by everyone from the likes of This Morning to The Guardian. Therefore, it was about time the Girl About crew got in on the Yorky action and I can report back that it was worth the wait!
Yorkshire puddings are the Holy Grail of Yorkshire cuisine and this place is a temple to the fluffy creations. Why on earth should this county’s finest culinary masterpiece be reserved for just Sundays? Well, we can get our everyday Yorky pud fix at The York Roast Co. Their signature Yorky pud wrap consists of a full roast dinner rolled up burrito-style in a flattened Yorkshire pudding. It’s a genius concept to use a Yorky instead of bread to create the ultimate roast dinner sandwich. Proper Yorkshire fast food.
With Christmas fast approaching, I opted for their special Yorky pud Christmas wrap. It had the full works of roast turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, a dollop of mulled cranberry red cabbage, sprouts and a drizzle of thick gravy, all wrapped up in a giant Yorkshire pudding. And I mean GIANT! This was one hefty wrap and it was quite a challenge to eat it in a remotely lady-like fashion. But who gives a stuff about that! This is not first date food. This is gravy dripping down your chin, shove it all in food. I bloomin loved it! The meat was succulent, the Yorkshire pudding was crispy and all the trimmings worked together to make this a really tasty, hearty delight.
You can pick some sides to go with your wrap. I chose roast potatoes which came in a cup-size portion but to be honest I barely touched them as the Yorky pud wrap was so darn filling. Other options are crackling, veg, stuffing or even extra mini Yorkshire puddings for those who can’t get enough of the golden beauties.
The Girl About blog squad have had some heated debate lately about whether Yorkshire puddings belong with a traditional Christmas turkey dinner. That classic festive conundrum. Our conclusion is that hell yeah they do and so they jolly well should, given that we’re in Yorkshire! The York Roast Co wrap them together perfectly with their Christmas Yorky pud. By ‘eck it’s good.
