Ilkley’s super slick and sophisticated over 21s cocktail bar debuts its food menu this week and it’s worth the wait.
When The Ticket Office in the well-heeled West Yorkshire town of Ilkley opened its ornate doors in 2017, the joint put a night out on the town in this particular town, on a whole new level.
Whilst there are some nice places to neck a cocktail or three in Ilkley, it really lacked a venue that was first and foremost a trendy cocktail bar.
Fast-forward six months and not only is Wharfedale’s most salubrious and talked-about drinking establishment creating the most incredible cocktails for its classy clientele – The Ticket Office, Yorkshire’s answer to The Orient Express, now offers a delicious menu of sandwiches, sharing platters, bar snacks and seasonal specials.
“”Sandwiches, sharing platters, bar snacks and seasonal specials” all sounds pretty ordinary right?
But I can assure you, just like The Ticket’s Office’s Signature Espresso Martini (my personal favourite) and a Porn Star that puts the ‘P’ in Porn and is certainly the star of the Ticket Office show (and every other cocktail-fuelled show in Ilkley), the menu’s offering is certainly not run-of-the-mill pub grub.
Each and every dish, plate and platter features an array of mouth-watering ingredients and flavours – a well thought-out menu that sits perfectly alongside one of the Ticket Office’s Signature cocktails, a glass of champagne, wine, or a local ale.
Head Chef, Paul Murphy, who worked alongside the Yorkshire Michelin-Star legend Frances Atkins at The Yorke Arms, has created a menu that features hyper-local produce from Ilkley’s leading food emporiums to include Lishman’s and Ramus, and fresh bread from right across the road and local bakery – The Loafer.
He told us he wanted the menu to reflect the venue’s interior, ethos and vibe – decadent, relaxed and sociable. And he’s nailed it.
We jumped in head first and ordered two sharing plates (SHARERS) between two of us. Both of which feature some of my guilty foodie-pleasures from across the menu to include oysters and the beyond-delicious sounding halloumi fries. And believe me, there were delicious.
Out of the four available ‘Sharers’ – MEAT, FISH, VEG and CHEESE, we opted for FISH and VEG.
FISH features oysters in ginger, wasabi and jinzu, prawn and crayfish cocktail, gin-soaked Gravdlax, crab and prawn cakes, mackerel pate, pickled cucumber and tarter said.
VEG features Manzanilla olives, spiced tortilla chips, guacamole, tzatziki, sun-blushed tomato dip, chick pea koftas, halloumi fries, crudities and sweet and salted cashews.
For Vegans and those who go gluten-free, Phil will whip up a SHARER just for you featuring Tzatziki made for soya-based yogurt and gluten-free bread and tortilla chips. There is a good selection of other delicious-sounding Vegan options on the menu too.
Upon ordering, we asked if me might possibly be able to ‘doggy bag’ leftovers to take home, as there was no way that two little ladies-wot-lunch could polish off two SHARERS.
How wrong were we!
Every morsel on each oversized rustic wooden platter was delicious and delectable and there was plenty of everything. The colours, textures and flavours of each platter were bold and beautiful. Fresh and not too fussy, but fancy enough to stand their own next to those incredible cocktails.
I just wished I’d ordered champagne to wash down my oysters… next time. And there will be plenty of next times.
The Ticket Office now serves their full table service menu Monday to Thursday from 12pm to 8pm, Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 4pm and on Sunday’s from 12pm to 6pm.
And check out the outdoor terrace – you’ll find me here if and when the sun shines again in Yorkshire folks.
The Ticket Office caters for private functions and small group experiences to include cocktail master classes and food and cocktail pairings.
A big thank you to the folks at The Ticket Office in Ilkley for inviting me and Jo along to check out their new menu. It’s a winner!
